Lushin Dubey put up a riveting performance in "Untitled Stage at Taj Mahal Hotel's Indian restaurant Haveli. |
BRA BURNING feminists Would have loved to hear what the protagonist in
the Arvind Gaur directed play, "Untitled" performed by theatre veteran
Lushin Dubey, had to say about the rights of a woman. But Lushin herself
feels she does not belong to that breed, because her stance is more on
the equality of the sexes without any preconceived notions.
Performing for a select guest list at the Taj Mahal Hotel's Haveli restaurant
on Wednesday night, Dubey's solo act had most of the audience, specially
the women nodding in approval as she switched holes with the ease of a
Chameleon, at times using puppets for the narration.

"I've tried to put forward in a very honest way, the marginalisation
women have been facing," says Dubey The riveting performance, based on
Dario's Fo's Medea (from the original Euripedes' classic), was juxtaposed
with renowned writer Vijay Dan Detha's Nyari Nyari Maryada, which was
adapted into a play by Gaur and Dubey "By presenting both the plays together,
what we have tried to do is depict the universality of the plight of women
everywhere," explains Gaur who is looking forward to working on more such
plays with Dubey Essaying various roles at the same time wasn't an easy
pr-oposition for Lushin, but like she says, it was a challenge that she
had to take on, because she felt so strongly about the subject. Says Abhijit
Mukherji, General Manager, Taj Mahal, "Haveli has a typical old world
charm and in keeping with the ambience, we plan to hold more such events
here in future.
" Among those seen enjoying the cocktails after the performance were adman
Suhel Seth, Surinder Mehra, North India Head Energy Group of Deutsche
Bank, Pradeep Dubey, Sunil Hingorani, VP, Marketing, Star TV and Nalini
Singh. The delectable snacks included Sous Chef Rajiv Janveja's special
offerings like the Hara Kabab Roulade, Chicken Noisttes, canapes and Phylo
Pastry with Cottage Cheese, which were presented in Continental style.
